AP World GRADING PROCEDURES
GRADING PROCEDURES
TESTS (40%) – Tests will cover multiple chapters plus materials covered in class. They will be
timed, multiple choice tests to practice the format that the AP Exam is in. Also like the AP Exam,
they will also be cumulative of all the material that has been covered up to that test, however the
majority of each test in class will be from the material we have most recently covered. There will be
two to three tests per nine weeks.
ESSAYS (30%) – Essays make up 50% of the score on the AP Exam and therefore will be a major
part of your grade in this class. Students will be assigned one graded essay per nine weeks. These
essays will be Compare and Contrast (Comp), Change and Continuity Over Time (COT), and
Document Based Questions (DBQ). The essays will be graded using the College Board AP World
History generic rubrics.
READING/MAP QUIZZES (20%) – Reading quizzes can be given at any time and will cover up
through the reading that is due that day. The format will again be timed, multiple choice to replicate
the AP Exam. These quizzes are to insure that the student is keeping up with the reading as scheduled.
Map quizzes will be scheduled as needed.
PARTICIPATION/ASSIGNMENTS (10%) – Class participation is an important part of any course.
You are expected to participate in ALL class discussions and debates. Unexcused absences and
tardies, sleeping in class, talking off topic, putting on make-up, writing notes to classmates, working on
homework for other classes, and other off-task occurrences will be reflected in your participation
grade. We will often discuss and debate issues about which people might have a strong point of view.
Follow the rules of common courtesy and respect others views.
There will be various assignments given in class throughout the year. Some will be completion only
(complete-100%, incomplete-0%, no partial credit). Others will be graded. Assignments are due
when you walk in to class (LATE WORK IS NOT ACCEPTED). Take home essays should be
typed in New Times Roman 12pt on standard white paper.
